Asia Times Square in Grand Prairie will celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival with traditional lion dances, live K-pop performances and plenty of food.

The free, three-day celebration begins Friday evening with an opening ceremony and lantern parade. Film showings, live music and dances will take place throughout the weekend.

Matthew Loh, CEO of Asia Times Square, said the annual event is both a celebration and a way to highlight Asian culture.

“Part of our mission is both to give back to the community and promote our culture,” Loh said.

Asia Times Square is home to the Hong Kong Market Place, one of the largest Asian grocery stores in North Texas, and dozens of restaurants serving everything from sushi and ramen to Korean-style corndogs and matcha.

This is the center’s 14th annual Mid-Autumn Festival, a lunar holiday celebrated in many East and Southeast Asian countries.

In addition to the square’s regular restaurants and stores, some 20 vendors will be on hand selling Asian foods and wares.

Hong Kong Market plans to sell mooncakes, the holiday’s signature food, which is a tender pastry encasing a sweet filling, like red beans, white lotus seed paste or candied fruits.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is free and open to the public. It runs 4-10 p.m. Friday and noon-10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Asia Times Square, 2625 W. Pioneer Parkway in Grand Prairie.
