Nashville Inspired Restaurant, Live Music Venue To Open In Theater District

Put on your cowboy boots and brush up on your line dancing skills: A new Nashville-inspired restaurant and live music venue will open in Boston’s Theater District in December.

Nash Bar & Stage is set to debut in the former Abby Lane space at 253 Tremont St. (both restaurants are owned by celebrity chef Jason Santos’s Buttermilk & Bourbon Group). The space is currently undergoing a redesign with the help of Assembly Design & RODE Architects, according to Erica Koehler, director of operations for the Buttermilk & Bourbon Group. When it’s finished, guests can expect a decidedly Southern vibe, complete with saloon doors, marquee signs, and custom millwork. Vintage cowgirl murals by local artist Mark Grundig round out the country theme.

The split-level restaurant will host a dining room and bar on the first floor, and a stage and full bar on the second floor.

“We plan to have live music of some caliber every day of the week,” Koehler shared. “We’ll be bringing bands up from Nashville for weekend shows as well as booking local country bands.”

And, yes, there will be line dancing.

While menu details are still being worked out, Koehler said to expect oversized grilled cheese sandwiches at the bar and take-out window, the latter of which will be open from 10 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. after the kitchen closes. As for the drinks, rotating boozy milkshakes, moonshine cocktails, and Southern spirits are all on deck.

Abby Lane went into hibernation in the winter of 2020, and a representative for the restaurant told Boston.com in April that it planned to reopen in the fall. But plans shifted, and downtown Boston will now be home to a little bit of Nashville.

Santos has also been keeping busy with other projects. The chef opened seafood emporium B&B Fish in Marblehead in November 2020, and debuted a second Buttermilk & Bourbon location in Watertown in August. Stay tuned for more details on Nash Bar & Stage, which aims to open the first or second week of December.
