Icarly Reboot

The iCarly revival premiered on Paramount+ back in June and while fans are enjoying the new take with a heavy dose of nostalgia, things could have been a lot different.

In a new interview with Bustle, Miranda Cosgrove opened up about how the reboot came to be and, as it turns out, the original pitch was very much TikTok-inspired. Per the magazine, initially, the revival was intended to be a kids’ show that saw Carly and her brother Spencer (played by Jerry Trainor) running their own “Hype House” in Seattle, training the next generation of social media influencers. “I don’t think that any of us would have been up for that,” Miranda said of the idea. “What excited me about doing iCarly again was getting to put the characters in situations that we couldn’t show before.”

Miranda also opened up about her reservations about the revival as a whole and how she doubted the “mature” version of iCarly would get greenlit, adding that she was also pleasantly surprised when the crew was “almost immediately” on board with it.

“On the old iCarly, I just did whatever anybody said, because I was 13 and just wanted to do a good job. It’s nice to be able to voice your opinion and really be heard,” she added. The actor also revealed that “the first thing” she did when the revival was being discussed was call her co-stars Jennette McCurdy, Jerry Trainor, and Nathan Kress. “Many people don’t like the idea of revivals, so we were all scared. We didn’t want to ruin anyone’s childhood memories,” she recounted.

It’s safe to say Miranda had nothing to worry about, because the show was officially renewed for a second season earlier this month.
