The right-sided centre-back has joined the Tigers on a season-long loan from Manchester United and, having played 30 times for Salford City in League Two in 2020/21, the 20-year-old is looking forward to making the step up to the second tier.
“It's going to be a big step up for me," said Bernard.
“Being in League Two with Salford last season was a good experience for me playing against some big strikers and grown men, whereas the Championship will test me both in that way and in terms of technical ability as well. I'm sure it will be good for me and hopefully I can do well.
“I'm really excited to be joining Hull City and hopefully it can be a very exciting season for us. I feel that I've joined a big club with it having been in the Premier League in recent years and hopefully I can try and help to push us back towards that kind of level."
Although still very early in his career, Bernard has already made his senior debut for Manchester United. He played in a Europa League tie against Astana of Kazakhstan back in 2019 and, with a place in United's first team his ultimate future aim, he admits that his current Old Trafford colleague, and former Hull City defender, Maguire is somebody he can use as inspiration.
“I can use somebody like Harry Maguire as an inspiration," Bernard also told Hull's website.
“He is somebody who has shown that you aren't always going to go from the Academy straight into the first team. Sometimes you'll go out on loan, play games at different levels and develop that way."
